For 32 years, AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc. has brought together tens of thousands of Houstonians in a walk to end HIV. This year, AFH will host the 32nd annual Walk to End HIV virtually, inviting Houstonians to participate any time between now and Thursday, April 1, 2021. Registration for the virtual experience, which will raise funds for AFH and other local HIV/AIDS service organizations, is now open HERE.

This year, participants can choose any activity—walking, running, swimming, dancing, cooking, painting, singing, etc.—to raise money and help end the HIV epidemic in Houston. Participants can also create a fundraising team or individual fundraising page through the AFH website, or join or contribute to an existing team or page. Fundraising efforts can be easily shared on social media in order to encourage other Houstonians to participate and give. Prizes will be awarded to individuals for every $50, $125, $500 and $1000 they raise, as well as to the top three fundraising teams in each category.

“AFH is on a mission to end the HIV epidemic in Houston by 2030,” says AFH CEO John Huckaby. “Advances in treatment offer real hope for people living with HIV to live healthy lives, while PrEP, a once-daily pill to prevent HIV, means that we can drastically slow the acquisition of HIV. Funds raised from the Walk to End HIV are vital to the work being done community-wide to reach this goal.”

Additionally, every Friday beginning on February 26, AFH will host free livestreamed events on their Facebook and Instagram channels (@AFHoustonTX) to encourage participation and raise awareness and funds.

On April 9, AFH will host a virtual celebration at AIDSWalkHouston.org to celebrate this year’s top fundraisers, present grants to benefitting agencies and honor the 2021 AIDS Walk underwriters and agency partners. The celebration, hosted by a surpsise local celebrity, will feature special performances and apperances from leaders in the community.

AIDS Walk Houston raises funds for AFH and several benefitting agencies that provide education, pediatric programs, housing, food, medical care, counseling, job training and more to the almost 30,000 Houstonians currently living with HIV/AIDS. These organizations also provide essential services and programs for the LGBTQ and allied community in the Greater Houston area.
