Country restaurant Kelley’s, located at 1502 W. Main St., League City, is closed after being completely destroyed by a fire Feb. 14.
League City firefighters responded to the fire at 6:48 p.m. Feb. 14 and found heavy smoke inside the building and coming from the roof. All restaurant guests and employees were safely evacuated before the flames spread to the roof and the rest of the building, according to a League City press release.
One League City volunteer firefighter suffered minor injuries when the roof partially collapsed, but he was treated and released from a medical facility the evening of Feb. 14, according to the release.
The Forest Bend, Nassau Bay, Dickinson and Webster fire departments all helped League City firefighters stop the blaze. Kemah, Seabrook and Santa Fe fire departments operated League City’s fire and EMS stations the evening of Feb. 14 as other calls for service came in, the release reads.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but reports indicate work was being done to the roof over the last few days and shortly before the fire began, according to the release.
Kelley’s has locations around the Bay Area, including Pearland and Pasadena, and was started by a Houston Police Department retiree in 1983.
